The Labyrinth
At its most basic level the labyrinth is a metaphor for the journey to the center of your deepest self and back out into the world with a broadened understanding of who you are.

The natural labyrinth at Belle Haven is an eleven circuit design inspired by the famous medieval labyrinth in the Chartres Cathedral, in the French city of that name. A true labour of love, it was mown into a hayfield (an easy stroll from the house) in April of 2011 and is tended with dedication, and fascination! The natural walls growing up reveal what this Virginia hayfield has held in reserve…and each year, with my assistance, wildflowers will increase…as will my awe at the transformative power it holds within it’s embrace.
Unlike a maze, which is a riddle, or puzzle to solve, the only decision a labyrinth requires one to make is whether to begin. The diameter is 148 ft. and a walk to the center takes 15 minutes, or a total of 30 minutes more or less to complete. Walking it creates a peaceful way to begin or end a Reiki treatment, to connect with others on retreat or to walk in solitude.
